Country Western Dancing linedance two-step videos

Don’t miss the free easy-to-learn beginning, linedance and two-step dance videos at the end of this blog!

What a great time

We wanted to give a shout out to Saddles n Spurs for their terrific dance lessons. This is one great HonkyTonk worth revisiting.

We had the most delightful and instructive lessons from Teddy and Brenda Valdez.

Yep, it’s all about Country Western Dancing at Saddle N Spurs Saloon!  Check out our dance gear!

The Lessons

Oh my gosh, this was the first place we had consecutive lessons one
right after another for over an hour, at a learn-able rate of speed, but also

also had time to practice the dance at a later time in he evening. SOOO much fun.

Teddy was so welcoming and treated us like family. Such a refreshing
down home welcome. This place is truly a beginner’s alert place. Do not
miss these lessons. Our compliments to this dynamic duo.

The Visit
We have made this place a regular part of our visits to Las Vegas. The one
thing that makes this place a charming old tavern is its age, but it had a few chinks in the restroom armor that needs to be fixed ; the aging restroom plumbing.  We had to leave before we wanted to.  We were assured this was being taken care of and would be fixed very soon.  All the other charming features of this true honkytonk saloon make this a must visit place for true country western dancing. We know we’ll be back soon :))

The BONUS

So, if you decide to go out country dancing soon, you need some arrows in your quiver!  If you want to join in on the fun, you need to know how to two-step and a couple of easy and popular linedances that they play wherever line dancing is happening.   We have added below two easy to learn, easy to dance; linedance videos.  And, as a second bonus, a very easy and very basic Two-Step Couples dance lesson.  These are three dances you can easily learn and be ready to dance at your next visit to a Country Western Dance place. Have a ton of fun!

BOOT SCOOTIN’ REVIEW            Country Western Dancing

Gilley’s Las Vegas

3300 S. Las Vegas Blvd

Las Vegas, NV  89109

Same ol’, Same ol’…or is it?

Hi y’all, we have been country western dancing at Gilley’s several times in the past 4 years.  But, we were Not very impressed with it in the past. The bands were only so-so, the atmosphere with hay bales was old, and there was no energy, enthusiasm or excitement to be found.  The dancing was overwhelmed with loud disco/metal music and an out of control dance floor.

Something is NEW

But that has all changed!  Because, to our surprise, this night, we encountered a good country band, a much improved atmosphere and more country western dancing music than we ever heard in years past.  This time, we felt this country western dancing venue, Gilley’s, deserved a good review.  Better music, free dance lessons, cleaner restrooms, more dances called, and Oh, a Thursday Night bull riding contest with a mechanical bull!  Including a $200 pot for the person that could ride the bull for the longest time!  Ride’m Cowboys and Cowgirls!

INSIDE:

Cover Charge:  We visited on a Thursday and there was no cover charge

Age range:  Drinking age to 50+

Dress Code:  No dress code was displayed, but most wore jeans, gals wore rompers, dresses, jeans& casual tops, some cowboy boots and cowboy hats, of course.  We felt very comfortable wearing boots, hats, country western dancing shirts and jeans.  Woohoo!

Dance Floor:  Good size for dancing on a Thursday, but we have visited on the weekend and felt it was almost too crowded to dance. It was like dancing in a can of sardines!  This fall when we stop by Gilley’s again, we will check out the crowd size on a Friday or Saturday night, for sure.

Dance Mix:  Occasional two-step with band (most songs were very slow), and more dancable tempo with DJ.  We also danced swing and some slow dances.  We were surprised that most nights they have free linedancing lessons, but only  handful of linedances were called and played that night.

Dance Music:  The live music that night was Brian Lynn Jones and the Misfit Cowboys

Dancing:  We did a fair amount of dancing. Would’ve danced more if more of the songs had a good dance tempo.

Dance Lessons:  We didn’t take the lesson, but here is a dance lesson video of the linedanceThe Electric Slide” that you can learn at home and have fun dancing at Gilley’s!  And as a bonus, here is a basic Two-Step dance lesson for the most popular type of country western dancing for couples!  Enjoy!

Food:  Salads, BBQ, Chilli, Nachos, Hush Puppies, Ribs, Brisket, Chicken and Burgers

Beverages:  Alcoholic, Tea, Sodas, Coffee

Restrooms:  Average size and average cleanliness.  Could use some work there!

Security:  Good security at Back door and Front door and inside.

ATMOSPHERE:  Changed from years past (the hay bales are gone and replaced with (I kid you not) saddle barstools and many more tables

NEWBIES: Good place to start out, probably with the free lessons. Talked to some newbies visiting from British Columbia and they definitely would’ve loved a lesson to get started on the dance floor.

Specifics: As always, earlier arrival is less crowded.

Final Thoughts:  We were very pleasantly surprised with the new makeover at Gilley’s, and we had a really good time Country Western Dancing, watching the bull riding contest, and the generally more open and relaxed atmosphere.  We will be visiting Gilley’s again soon.  Until then, See Y’all next time!

BOOT SCOOTIN’ REVIEW            Country Western Dance Place

Stoney’s Rockin’ Country

6611 S Las Vegas Blvd. #160

Las Vegas, NV 89119

INSIDE:

Cover Charge: ??? (No cover charge on the Fri night we attended, but not sure about other nights, so check their website if this is a concern for you.)

Age range: 18-50+ high energy, because of all the boot stomping, jumping and spinning; all in good fun, so definitely expect a younger and totally fun crowd

Schedule: Open Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat, and Sun. Live music on Fri and Sat. Dance Lessons every night at 7:30, usually 2 dances taught per night.

Web Site: stoneysrockincountry.com  A Country Western Dance Place

Dress Code: Country Casual, boots are a given and some hats. Guys in tee-shirts, cowboy shirts and jeans, gals in jeans and cutoff jeans.

Dance Floor: Good size, way bigger than your average CW dance place. The largest CW dance floor in Vegas.

Dance Mix: Line dance 70%, swing 15%, two-step and couple 15%.  A Country Western Dance Place.

Dance Music: Mostly Popular Country, with some pop/rock and hip hop thrown in.

Live Music: Brian Lynn Jones and the Misfit Cowboys, great band. See website for upcoming bands and events.

Dance Lessons: We took a group lesson that went pretty fast. The teacher was young and great but you better pick up the pace to inhale the instructions. The first lesson was a high intermediate line dance that was difficult for us. The second lesson was a beginners line dance and all the newbies had fun and we did too!

Food: Retro Wednesdays has free appetizers with purchase of drink, Thurs. Ladies Night has $1.00

drinks, food at bar. This is not a restaurant, it is a Dance place, so don’t expect lots of food and non alcoholic drinks.

Beverages: Beer, Wine, Hard Liquor and water

Restrooms: Big, clean and maintained

Atmosphere: night club with lots of smilin’ faces and rompin’ stompin’ dancin’ attitudes.

Newbies: Take the lessons, go out and try the dances even if you’re shy or think you have two left feet! Nobody cares, they’re all thinkin’ the same thing and worrying about themselves. Have fun! 🙂 Well known, with lots of tourists and lots of locals too!

OUTSIDE

Security: There were lots of security people stationed throughout the venue and experienced people at the doors as we came in and as we exited too.

Parking: Lots of well-lighted, free parking in the middle of a very large shopping mall. A very safe environment both outside and inside at Stoney’s.

Final Thoughts: This is a fun, exciting place to dance and have fun! There are plenty of people out on the big dance floor that know how to dance, and stomp and spin. Plenty of people to follow if you are a newbie. This a place where everybody has a good time.

BOOT SCOOTIN’ REVIEW

Saddle N Spurs Saloon

2333 N Jones Blvd #108

Las Vegas, NV 89108

INSIDE:

This is a very unique Honky Tonk Saloon. When you enter the venue you are automatically reminded of what a real western saloon must have been like. There’s lots of western motif, a real hard wood dance floor that is well maintained. The food and drinks are reasonably price. The Bobby Kingston Band was outstanding on this Saturday night. All country western songs were a dance-able tempo with a mix of two-step, line dancing and swing. The staff and patrons are so friendly and helpful especially when we tried to learn a new line dance. This New Line dance (“Rock Me” was a familiar dance to us, but slightly different than the way we learned it. But it was close enough that we just adapted to the different steps and had so much fun! When we first arrived, we thought the dance floor might be too small, but that was not the case, because the dancers were polite and considerate, a fun time was had by all. It was a very personable group of people. We highly recommend this place for its décor, its rockin/dancin country music, its good food and we love it that we got to dance two-step, line dances and swing. This is among the best the places we visited for country western dancing!. WooHoo! We loved this place and plan to return to it on our next trip out this way!

Age range: 40+ We were there from 7-10 pm and crowd remained mostly in this age group.

Dress Code: Western casual. Lots of boots, cowboy shirts and cowboy hats.

Dance Floor: Wooden floor. It is a small to medium wooden dance floor that is well taken care of. We enjoyed dancing on it

Dance Mix: 2 Step, line and some swing. The band called the dances, which made the evening very fun for us. Usually, if your are dancing at a new place, it’s harder to get going if you don’t know what dance is coming up.

Dance Music: Popular and classic western. We found that both the band and the Jukebox played very danceable music.

Live Music: Yes. They are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and have entertainment nightly with no cover charge.

Dancing: Two-Step, Line dancing and WCSwing

Dance Lessons: Not while we were there on a Saturday night. They do have free dance lessons several nights a week though.

Food: Serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Prices are reasonable

Beverages: Coffee and drinks. Also reasonably priced.

Restrooms: Small, but very clean.

Security: None that we noticed. We felt very comfortable with the crowd there, and free parking is available right outside the door.

ATMOSPHERE: This place has a great Old Time Country Western feel to it, and it made for a really fun place to dance. The Band and Jukebox did a great job, and we danced most of the dances while we were there, including two-step, line dancing and swing. The other dancers were very friendly and made us feel very comfortable dancing there. Lots of people, including the owner, came over to our table to say hello and introduce themselves to us.

NEWBIES: This is a good place for new/inexperienced people to learn to dance. They have free lessons, great CW dance music and fun people on the dance floor who will help you out.

FINAL THOUGHTS: If you are in Las Vegas, and love to dance, SNS is a must visit! You will have a great time and will be just like us…WE CAN’T WAIT TO DANCE AGAIN AT SADDLES N’ SPURS SALOON.
